Effective use of ICT

Table of Contents
2.1 The learning potential of Audiovisuals
2.1.3 Films and Video Stories for language learning

One of the most important goals of the pre-school courses is learning to talk, listen and understand the language. The daily routine of home and class is very simple and we don’t need to use many words, expressions or verbal times. Stories help us to introduce new topics and interests. If the stories are visual, kids pay more attention.

There are many videos in Internet that are made for repeat words, numbers, colors…  But they are not as interesting as the cartoons. The audiovisual language of the cartoons is similar to the films. Children need visual stories with narrative to learn to understand other more sophisticated products. In cartoons, indirectly, they learn words, numbers and colors. But the most important think they learn is the structure of a story, the characters, the plot, introduction, conflict and outcome. If we think about it, it’s the same of the oral stories, the stories with illustrations and the novels.

Online Resource

We can’t recommend Youtube for videos because the better cartoons have copyright and we take the risk of bad image and sound quality or fake and inappropriate contents for kids.

The videos in Youtube could disappear because legal issues or other problems and we can’t trust in them. We recommend to use a legal subscription to a VOD platform like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Google Play that ensure you better quality, legal contents and availability.
