By appreciating the actions of the characters in this tale, the children develop moral images and perceive moral values such as friendliness, sympathy, compassion, and help. Reading and listening to this tale develops children's moral feelings. Children learn to distinguish between 'good' and 'bad', 'right' and 'false'. In the eyes of children, the "rabbit" is wrong, a liar, unfriendly, and the "dog" - friendly, generous, understanding, good. The moral of the tale - a friend does not treat you bad. One girl commented in summary, "The rabbit is liar, he cheated on his friend - the dog, and took off his shoes, so now they are not friends."
