1.1.4 Fine and gross motor skills

The formation of motor skills is a long process, which is achieved gradually, and is "lost" if it is not properly consolidated through multiple repetitions.

In order to train motor skills, several stages are being carried out:

  • The initiation stage - which leads to the formation of a clear representation on the respective motor skills, aspect made with explanation and demonstration. If necessary, the skills can be decomposed into components.
  • The consolidation stage - which involves the delivery of a correct execution technique
  • The stage of perfection - which leads to the practice of motor skills in various conditions, its incorporation into a series of other skills and the execution of these combinations.

One of the pre-school's basic needs is the need for play and movement. In order to develop harmoniously physically, in preschool, besides a body conformation corresponding to the child's age, it is necessary to strengthen muscles, strengthen and elasticize the joints and develop the respiratory and cardiovascular apparatus. When the pre-schooler performs physical exercise, a psychical balance is achieved, self-control, the preschooler gains confidence in his own forces, learns to relate to the "others".

The formation of motor skills, as well as the strengthening of motor skills, also implies the manifestation of mental processes that lead to the development of children's intellectual abilities: attention, analysis, synthesis, decision. When learning motor skills and applying them in various contexts, there is an active physical participation of the preschooler, which leads to the education of qualities that can turn into traits that can persist all the time: confidence in their own forces, courage, will, self, criticism and self-criticism. Team games, in groups, develop the spirit of cooperation and self-help, belonging to the group.

The rich background of learned motor skills, helps the preschooler effectively solve some family tasks and activities: household tasks, excursions with parents or individual hygiene: nurturing, dressing, actions done by himself.
