A parent/guardian is a guide and a role model for a child. In the first years of life, the parent is the one who prepares the environment, the one who filters the information with which the child interacts.

As the child grows, there are more opportunities for him to make decisions, but only from the options selected by the parent/guardian.
This chapter discusses the importance of setting limits, how these are established and implemented. Rules and limits have to be the same for all people and the adult has to respect the rules decided for the child. Setting limits is not the same as restricting the child and refusing him the opportunity to experiment new things. He will not be limited to what he knows or what he receives from others; quite the opposite: he will develop a greater curiosity, initiative and determination.
Once the child starts to attend nursery, he will start to ask to do some favourite activities at home too. This is normal as part of our job as parents is to prepare children for school, therefore extra activities after school are a necessity. It is very important that you know the phisical, cognitive and emotional development thresholds of your child so that you can deal with the eventual occurring problems.
This module will develop on the importance of a healthy relationship with your child. Social development is as important as cognitive development when we plan for a successful school experience. Pre-school is an important starting point for developing the social skills needed to build the foundation for interaction in an environment which requires respecting rules and norms.
