1.2 Developing non-cognitive social competences
1.2.1 Introduction

The harmonious development of the pre-schooler on all sides ensures the success of the adult later. Quite often, parents think that the most important aspect in their child's development is intelligence. There is no doubt that cognitive skills condition the success of later (at school and in life), but only intelligence is not enough. The skills of personal autonomy, self-control, positive social behaviors are other issues that should be developed and exploited at pre-school age. The sides of human, cognitive, socio-emotional and physical development are in close interdependence; the good functioning of one can ensure the success of the other and vice versa. Autonomy leads to self-confidence, child empowerment, and a great desire to participate and initiate activities. Self-control is an important part of integrating into the community and helps to form balanced relationships, which also contribute to positive social behaviors.
