1.4.4 Teaching tips for interculturality

An important role in the harmonious development of the child in a beneficial environment is also intercultural education, which is an ideological option in democratic societies, and aims to make future citizens choose and orient themselves in the context of changes in value systems. It has to become a constant teacher training and to put its mark on school curricula and educational subjects, on educational priorities, on criteria for assessing skills and behaviors, on relationships with parents and the community, enabling the creative behavior in communication , cooperation and trust within the group; mutual respect, tolerance for different opinions.

Inclusive and intercultural education promotes tolerant, open, accepting and natural understanding of the eu-the other and the notion of alien, recognizing and respecting cultural differences by making positive use of equality between people and not by applying superior-inferior polarity.

It also presupposes the promotion of school policies that allow the equalization of educational opportunities and strategies for capitalizing cultural differences in order to turn them into pedagogical resources, and yet intercultural education should not be limited to the transmission of specific content in within a particular discipline, strengthening its interdisciplinary approach is fundamental; can not be conceived only for the school environment, but also with the extra - curricular (family, social groups, institutions, communities, mass - media). The role of the teacher is also an important one. There are remarkable changes beyond the function of communicating models and programs, which must pay more attention to the spirit of initiative and creativity, the whole activity being concentrated on the student.

Some ideas for games that can be successfully applied to kindergarten:

  • Preschoolers can be challenged to greet or count as many foreign languages
  • Preschoolers can be invited to come to kindergarten with a specific clothing item to their culture and present it to their colleagues (to tell about special moments when dressing with them or their origins).
  • The international picnic - each child brings a snack from a chosen country in advance. Show and taste the food.
  • Thematic parties organized at kindergarten

Hai-Hui through the World - Choose a new country / culture every day and all the activities of that day are specific - from the morning greetings, the menu of the day, the virtual visit of the museums, traditional stories etc.
