Watching videos can improve language and other cognitive areas. Making videos can improve also creativity and imagination. And there are other things children learn by watching videos. In cartoons there is a plot, a god character and a villain, some challenges to overcome and, maybe, a love story. All of these narrative parts transmit values.

If we are going to do videos, we have to include values on it. For example, we can use recycled materials to make the props or avoid gender discrimination.  The storyline should be interesting and funny, but avoiding the typical fairy tale with princess and knights or the imitation of a violent superhero film.

 


Online Resource

There are some well-meaning cartoons about values: friendship, respect for nature, tolerance… We can choose them and avoid others. But one of the most important things a child can learn from cartoons is the sense of humor. Some of these cartoons are boring and some of them don’t have an exciting storyline. An example of well-meaning is Daniel the tiger

There are other tv shows with potential to transmit values that have more interesting plots and sense of humor, for example, Peppa Pig.
