Once upon a time a farmer and his wife had a hen that laid a golden egg every day. They supposed that the hen should have a large lump of gold inside it, and in order to get it all at once, they killed her. By doing this they found, to their surprise, that the hen differed in nothing from their other hens. The naive couple, hoping to become rich all at once, deprived themselves of this daily income.
