In olden days there was a grandfather and a grandmother. They had twelve sons and three daughters. The sisters went swimming. After bathing, the youngest daughter found a snake in her shirt that smiled at him and the grass-snake proposed to her. The parents din not want to let their daughter marry the snake but Egle had given her consent already. They celebrated a happy wedding and settled in the snake's palace, which was in the sea. They had three sons and a daughter. The eldest son, nine years later, asked his mother to show her hometown. Egle applied for permission to snake, but he did not want to let her go and devoted three jobs: to spin the flax tuft, to wear fully the shoes and to bake a cake, after all, she would not go to a guest without a meal. An old sorceress helped Egle to do all the work. Then Egle said goodbye to her husband and went to her homeland. The snake told her t to come back nine days later and shout: Žilvine, Žilvinėli! If you are alive - milk foam, If dead, blood foam. The children was told not to tell anyone this secret. When Egle returned to her homeland, everyone was very happy and happy. The older siblings were thinking what to do here so she wouldn't have to go back to her husband.They began to guestioning the children How Egle would call her snake husband by the sea. Oak, Birch and Ash didn't tell the secret. Daughter Aspen was frightened that her uncles would pull scars from under the carcasses and she said everything. The brothers immediately ran to the sea, called for the snake, and bit it with a scythes. On the ninth day, Egle returned to the sea with her children. When she called, the sea was moved and there was a foam of blood. Egle learned that their beloved daughter, Aspen, had betrayed a secret. She became enraged and turned her sons into trees: oak, birch, ash. Daughter - a quiver whose leaves shiver from the slightest breeze. And he turned into a fir tree and protected his sons. Since then, oak, birch and ash are the strongest trees, and the aspen trembles with the slightest breeze.
