3.3.2 Examples of patterns of cooperation with preschool teachers.

There are different techniques or methods through which cooperation between school and family can be developed and channelled, among which the following stand out:

  • Collaborative activities in the classroom.
  • Extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborative activities outside the classroom.
  • Meetings
  • Activities at home.
  • Activities for parents training.
  • Management activities.

The first basic step to start establishing patterns of cooperation is through the exchange of information. Parents should talk briefly with teachers when they bring their children to school. This interaction, despite being something routine and brief, is very important. For example, a teacher may pay special attention to a pupil, if that child's parents have told him or her that the kid is not feeling well that day or has had a bad experience.

Likewise, when parents pick up their kid from school, the teacher must report anything of special relevance to their child, both good and bad experiences (injuries, worries, achievements). In this way, parents can follow up and raise awareness or boost them at home. The daily interaction and the exchange of information will help to improve cooperation and unite the two spheres of children, home and school.

As we have pointed out, this is the first basic level, which should be progressively increased until maximum cooperation is achieved. In addition to the exchange of information, there is a wide range of possibilities that go one step further, such as:

As Palacios y Paniagua (1992) states, "in a context in which there is not much tradition of parental involvement, it is reasonable to consider a strategy of progressive collaboration, in which parents are involved at the beginning in what is easiest for them, helping them find, step by step, ways to deepen this collaboration ".
